How do i cancel my github education subscription I would like to start oaying for an indivicual subscription as the co pilot in education is very limiting?

To "cancel" your Education benefits and switch to a paid subscription, you don't necessarily need to delete your account; you just need to update your billing preferences.

Here is the most direct way to handle this:

1. Managing your GitHub Global Campus Status
   GitHub Education benefits (the Student Developer Pack) usually expire automatically once your academic status is no longer verified. However, if you want to force the switch now:

Go to your Billing and plans settings.

Look for your current subscription status. Since the Education Pack is a discount applied to your account, you can often simply choose to "Upgrade" or "Change Plan."

2. Switching Copilot to an Individual Subscription
   Since your primary goal is unrestricted Copilot access:

Navigate to your GitHub Copilot settings.

If it shows as "Managed by GitHub Education," you may need to wait for the current cycle to end, or more effectively, contact GitHub Support to request an early removal of the education coupon from your account.

Once the education discount is removed, you will see the option to "Start a free trial" or "Subscribe" to Copilot Individual using your own payment method.

3. A Note on Benefits
   Keep in mind that once you opt out of the Education benefits, you will lose access to the other tools in the Student Developer Pack. If you only want the paid version of Copilot but want to keep the other free tools, ensure you are specifically upgrading the Copilot seat rather than closing the Education status entirely.

Hey man! had the same problem. here's guide for you:

1. Go to https://education.github.com
2. Sign in and go to your profile/benefits page
3. There should be an option to leave the Student Developer Pack or let it expire — GitHub Education benefits typically expire automatically when your school enrollment ends, but you can also just stop using it

After that do the following:

1. Go to https://github.com/features/copilot
2. Click Start a free trial or Buy now
3. Choose plan and enter billing details

If your Copilot access is currently tied to your school/organization, it may be managed by them — in that case you wouldn't need to "cancel" it yourself, you'd just sign up for the individual plan separately and the education one would coexist or expire on its own.

You don't actually need to cancel anything. The Student Pack is a set of free benefits tied to your verified status, it's not a paid subscription you have to unwind.

If your goal is just unrestricted Copilot, here's the cleanest path:

Go to github.com/settings/copilot and subscribe to Copilot Pro (or Pro+ if you want premium model access). The paid seat takes precedence over the free education one immediately, no waiting for anything to expire. The education discount only applies if you haven't already committed to a paid plan.

If you specifically want to drop out of the education program entirely (which also gives up the other pack benefits like Azure credits, JetBrains licenses, etc.), head to education.github.com/benefits and there's a "Leave Global Campus" option on the profile page.

One thing to double check: if your Copilot access is coming through a classroom or school organization rather than your individual Student Pack, you won't see the subscribe button on your personal settings. You actually can’t cancel GitHub Education benefits directly, because it’s not a paid subscription—it’s a free program tied to your student status.

If your goal is to use a paid GitHub Copilot plan instead, you don’t need to cancel anything. You can simply:

Go to Settings → Billing & plans
Find GitHub Copilot
Click Upgrade
Choose Copilot Pro / Pro+ and add a payment method

This will override the student benefit and give you full access to the paid features.

If you later cancel your paid plan, GitHub will automatically revert you back to the student version (as long as your education benefits are still active).

So in short:

❌ No way to cancel GitHub Education itself
✅ Just upgrade to a paid Copilot plan to remove limitations

So to summarize what I've gathered:

• The GitHub Education/Student Pack isn't a paid subscription, so there's nothing to "cancel"
• To get unrestricted Copilot access, I just go to Settings → Billing & Plans → GitHub Copilot → Upgrade, choose Pro or Pro+, and add a payment method
• The paid plan immediately overrides the education benefit
• If I ever cancel the paid plan, it reverts back to the student version automatically

My follow-up question: I noticed the "GitHub iOS app" shows a "Copilot Pro" in-app purchase option through the Apple App Store. For Nigeria, this is localized to "₦7,900", which is much more manageable than paying $10 and losing money to exchange rates.

How can I subscribe through the apple appstore for the upgrade to pro rather than using the web app ? see the image below.
